The mission of the AERB is to ensure the use of ionising radiation and nuclear energy in India does not cause undue risk to the health of people and the environment.


AERB develops and lay down safety requirements and guidance for utilities and users in form of regulatory safety documents. These regulatory safety documents provide greater detail on technical and legal aspects of the requirements set out in applicable statutes. The regulatory safety documents are issued under the enabling provision of Atomic Energy (Radiation Protection) Rules, 2004. The regulatory safety documents are developed with a view to cover the entire spectrum of regulated facilities and activities including various stages of lifetime of the facilities, as applicable while ensuring application of graded approach. These Regulatory Safety Documents are published in form of Safety Standards, Safety Codes, Safety Guidelines, Safety Guides and Safety Manuals.   • Annual Report which contains the jobs carried out by AERB during the calendar year
  • Annual Bulletin which is the popular version of the information contained in the Annual Report
  • Biannual AERB newsletter containing information on AERB activities in six months
